5 Tips for Staying Healthy this Running Season

The weather is warming up and you may want to start doing some running to help keep yourself in shape. Running is a great way to relieve stress, increase energy, and burn calories. Here are some tips that you may find useful.

Join a running group

Running with other people will help keep you motivated and you can push each other to do that little bit extra. There are also a lot of run/ walk events that you can participate in throughout the summer.

Make yourself a training schedule

Having a plan worked out on paper will help keep you motivated. You don’t get stuck doing the same thing every day and it will also keep you from getting carried away too soon.

Start small

When you’re just starting running, it is very easy to run for too long. This can lead to injuries and loss of motivation. On the first day, start with only running a mile or a half mile. From there you can slowly increase either the distance or the speed.

Warm up and cool down

It is important to warm up before starting to run each time. This will help you avoid injury. To warm up, start by walking for a while until you feel you are beginning to move freely. To cool down, walk until your heart rate returns to normal.
